Our software development team is looking for an experienced Android application developer who can help enhance the user experience of our OS by modifying and creating Android applications. Your focus is on making functionality available in highly usable applications. You will work together with the community and our partners to enhance existing applications and integrate them seamlessly into the existing user experience.

Your responsibilities will include

• You will help to improve the user experience for our owners by building a great set of Apps to run on our devices (and maybe more). You might develop and contribute to excellent community-developed applications.
• You will work together with the UI/UX, Platform, and release teams to develop Apps. You will design, implement, test and maintain those great new additions to our overall platform. You will take full ownership of App development from user test analysis till coding, including automatic testing. You will ensure that everything fits with the existing experience and look & feel.
• You will ensure that our Apps run smoothly on current and previous devices
• You will work jointly with the build and Platform team to facilitate third-party development and localization efforts, and engineer solutions to support such contributions. You will participate in the review of code contributions.
• You will engage with our community to explore additional functionality and ways to improve the overall user experience.

Your Skills

• You are a capable Android application developer with in-depth knowledge of the guts and workings of Android
• You have experience developing or modifying existing Android applications
• You know about Git, Gerrit and Jenkins, and preferably you’re working on a Linux box
• You are not afraid of doing server-side work, and enjoy that challenge as well

Other Qualities

• You have previously worked on modifying Android components and Applications (Contact/Phone/Mail).
• You have a focus on usability and can create appealing applications.
• You like working in the open and can adhere to our core values.
• You work well with non-technical people and can translate their stories into product requirements.
• You’re hands-on and aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty.
• You have good knowledge of and are experienced in open source development methodologies.
• You are solution-minded, capable of working within time constraints and work well independently.
• You excel in spoken and written English. Most of us are not native English speakers, but that’s the primarily language we use internally, as well as with our teams and partners worldwide.
